Published purpose

March 2021 – Following the outbreak of violence in Northern Rakhine State in August 2017, more than 700,000 Rohingya people crossed from Myanmar into Bangladesh over a period of several months. Currently, an estimated 855,000 Rohingya refugees live in 34 highly congested settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The speed and scale of the influx resulted in significant humanitarian needs. With GAC’s support, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) improves the health and safety of Rohingya women and girls by providing integrated sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and gender-based violence prevention and response. Project activities include: (1) delivering basic emergency obstetrics and newborn care services; (2) operating integrated women’s centers and providing survivor-centred sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) case management services for women, girls and other marginalized communities; (3) training service providers in comprehensive SRH care, SGBV, psychosocial support and case management processes; and (4) conducting outreach and awareness-raising sessions in the broader refugee community.
