Published purpose
February 2022 - Before the Taliban takeover, the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan was already one of the worst in the world. Since the takeover, humanitarian needs have worsened, and have led to an increase in regional displacement. Currently, there are over 300 refugees from Afghanistan living in Tajikistan, and the Afghanistan Situation Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP) for 2022 estimates that there could be up to 23,000 by the end of the year. In the middle of winter, these refugees are facing heightened needs, including related to shelter. With GAC’s support, the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) is dispatching 300 family tents to support the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in meeting the emergency shelter needs of these refugees from Afghanistan in Tajikistan.
