Published purpose
The goal of the project is to help Senegal to achieve rice self-sufficiency and to reduce poverty by supporting the National Program for Rice Self-sufficiency. The purpose of the Program is to increase rice production in the self-managed perimeters of the Senegal River Valley to meet the needs of 600,000 people each year, especially in rural areas. The project revolves around two major components: (1) availability of funds for rice producers to procure inputs to increase their production; and (2) capacity building of rural organizations to develop effective procurement and marketing services. In addition, the project has a management component.
