Published purpose

The goal of this project is to help the Peruvian government, state agencies, civil society and the private sector prevent, manage and resolve conflicts relating to natural resources and economic growth. The project aims to contribute to creating and maintaining a stable economic environment for equitable and sustainable economic growth in Peru by reducing the economic and social impact of these conflicts. The project consists primarily of technical assistance to state agencies, especially the Presidencia del Consejo de Ministros (similar to Canada's Privy Council Office) and regional governments, to help them develop and implement policies, practices and programs to prevent, manage and resolve resource-based conflicts. Project activities include: (1) training and capacity development of over 1,000 public officials, and other stakeholders, in conflict management and prevention; (2) creation and implementation of tools to address conflicts, and to reach mutually agreeable agreements; (3) support for the creation and operation of regional conflict management offices; and (4) support for the creation and operation of multi-sector dialogue tables at national, regional and local levels for the construction of an inclusive natural resource development agenda.
