Published purpose

The project aims to increase the number of children, especially girls, attending school in Garissa and Turkana counties and provide them with a better education. To this end, the project is supporting the Government of Kenya to pilot innovative new ways of managing and delivering education for hard to reach children in marginalized and remote arid counties. The project seeks to enhance the quality of teaching and ensure safe and stimulating learning environments for children, particularly for girls. It supports the newly established counties of Garissa and Turkana to manage educational resources in a more efficient and transparent manner. It is also the first initiative to pilot the use of mobile phone technology to monitor the quality of learning in remote communities in Kenya, which will have a tremendous impact on how decision-makers access accurate and up to date information on schools and establish budget and policy priorities.
