Published purpose

This project aims to improve the lives of those in some of the poorest areas of El Salvador, the communities of San Francisco Javier, Ozatlan, Tecapán, San Agustín, Berlin and part of Jiquilisco in the Department of Usulután by improving the long term economic and environmental viability of the local, community-owned coffee processing plant. The project seeks to (1) build an ecologically and economically sustainable coffee production and processing business; (2) enhance the food security of vulnerable subsistence coffee farmers in the region by ensuring access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food; and (3) improve the ability of the community-run organization, the Association of United Communities of Usulután (COMUS) to respond to the needs of the people. The project also aims to improve rural women’s inclusion and participation in the integrated rural development programs that COMUS runs.
