Published purpose
This project aims to provide better quality education to 18,000 elementary and secondary students by training 400 uncertified refugee and local Kenyan teachers in the Dadaab refugee camps that includes one of the largest refugee camps in the world. The project offers university-based teacher education programs at the primary and secondary levels for local teachers, which help teachers to improve their teaching skills, which in turn helps to ensure that students do better in elementary and secondary school. Engaging these teachers as students in on-line and on-site university degree programs aims to build portable teaching capacity in the refugee camps and vicinity. The project also seeks to serve as a model for possible replication in other developing countries offering asylum to refugees.
