Published purpose

This initiative aims to strengthen the skills of educators and provide resources for teaching mathematics in three regions of Tanzania (Dodoma, Iringa, and Morogoro). In Tanzania, a majority of children fail mathematics in the national Primary School Leaving Examinations and 25% do not attain a basic level of numeracy. This project aims to build the capacity of teachers to teach mathematics in rural and remote schools by supporting the collaboration of universities and teachers’ colleges with government departments and agencies responsible for education at the national, regional, district and ward levels. The project seeks to help 430 teachers improve their knowledge of mathematics and teaching skills, benefiting more than 13,000 children.
