Published purpose
The Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund (EDAF) project supports a draw-down fund, administered by the Canadian Red Cross (CRC), which allows Canada to rapidly respond to International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) emergency operations following small- and medium-scale humanitarian crises. The draw-down fund is a flexible funding mechanism that supports a timely and effective humanitarian response to those affected by natural disasters, non-recurrent health epidemics, and conflict situations. Through the EDAF project, the CRC also maintains emergency relief supplies on behalf of Global Affairs Canada, for rapid deployment in the aftermath of large- to catastrophic- scale crises. These relief supplies include basic relief items, such as tents, tarpaulins, jerry cans, hygiene items, and kitchen sets. This project falls under the Global Affairs Canada - Canadian Red Cross Strategic Partnership.
