Published purpose

This project represents a complementary $10 million contribution to the Tenth Replenishment of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This funding is to support IFAD’s ten-point climate mainstreaming plan, and IFAD’s target of helping an additional 7 million poor smallholder household members to cope with the effects of climate change. This project works to enable IFAD to expand its grants-based business model toward one that also integrates loan instruments. This funding helps IFAD achieve its goal of 100 per cent climate mainstreaming by 2018, with all its results-based country strategic opportunities (COSOPs) and project design reports explicitly addressing climate change. This project also supports Phase 2 of IFAD’s Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Programme (ASAP) which provides grants for climate-change adaptation activities to help poor rural smallholder farming communities withstand the effects of climate change and weather related disasters through the creation and sharing of knowledge, approaches and practices related to climate change adaptation.
