Published purpose

April 2016 - A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Ecuador at 6:58pm local time on 16 April 2016. Hundreds have been killed, thousands injured and over 700,000 people are affected. Over 1,500 buildings have either been damaged or destroyed by the earthquake. Most urgent needs are ensuring access to clean drinking water, sanitation services, temporary shelter, food and emergency medical assistance for those affected. With GAC's funding, this project will support the Ecuador Red Cross in their response, including search and rescue operations, to the earthquake. Project activities include: (1) providing trauma care, first aid and psychosocial support; (2) providing clean drinking water, hygiene kits, and temporary shelter; (3) providing life-saving information to target communities to help them withstand future shocks; and (4) restoring family links for the affected population.
