Published purpose

This project represents Canada’s support to the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) to strengthen the quality, transparency and bankability of infrastructure project preparation in developing and emerging markets. Canada’s contribution enables SIF to expand the use of SOURCE, a multilateral development bank-led digital platform that supports governments in preparing infrastructure projects that are well-designed, climate-resilient and attractive to private investment. SOURCE provides public authorities with a structured, framework for infrastructure project development, aligned with internationally recognized standards, including the G20 Quality Infrastructure Principles, the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By improving upstream project preparation, the platform helps reduce risk, strengthen governance and improve coordination among public and private stakeholders. This project aims to promote sustainable economic growth and inclusive development by increasing the number of high-quality infrastructure projects that are financially viable, environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. Project activities include: (1) expanding access to and use of the SOURCE platform among partner countries and institutions; (2) providing technical guidance and training to strengthen government capacity in infrastructure planning, project appraisal and procurement; and (3) supporting better integration of climate, social and governance considerations throughout the infrastructure project lifecycle to help mobilize private capital for sustainable infrastructure investments.
