Published purpose
This project represents Canada’s support to the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (DPA). The mandate of the DPA is to prevent, manage and resolve armed conflict wherever it may occur. By supporting the DPA, the project is directly preventing conflict and enhancing the UN’s capacity to manage crises in conflict-affected countries. In particular, Canadian funding is allocated to support the Rapid Response mechanism for deploying experts in mediation and peacemaking. This helps the DPA address violent conflict or employ preventative diplomacy to de-escalate emerging tensions, as well as respond to and identify signs of emerging crises.
