Published purpose

The purpose of this project is to help ensure that a democratically elected government is put in place in Haiti. Hurricane Matthew caused considerable infrastructure damage when it hit Haiti on October 4, 2016. The elections that were scheduled to take place on October 9, 2016, were therefore postponed for several reasons, including the fact that several buildings that were supposed to be polling stations were destroyed or damaged. Because of this damage to the buildings, tents must be purchased to serve as provisional polling stations for the November 20, 2016 elections. Funding is added to the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP’s) multi-donor fund to continue to support the Haitian government in conducting elections, and to allow the UNDP to purchase tents and to go ahead with scheduled activities.
