Published purpose

The United Nations Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation (UNSCAR) is a multi-donor trust fund that provides support on conventional arms regulation. UNSCAR provides project funding to United Nations partners, international and regional organizations, non-governmental organizations and research institutes to support countries to implement the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the Programme of Action (PoA) on the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons. With the support of Canada and other donors, UNSCAR is contributing to more effective implementation of arms regulations. UNSCAR-funded activities include: (1) support to weapons destruction, border controls and management of weapons stockpiles; (2) the development and delivery of databases, distance-learning, workshops, implementation tools and guides on arms control legislation; and (3) funding to special-circumstances projects to provide rapid-response to emergency situations.
