Published purpose
March 2017 - Niger continues to face significant humanitarian challenges related to food insecurity, malnutrition, and forced displacement. The expansion of the conflict in Nigeria, which has led to 302,387 internally displaced persons, returnees and Nigerian refugees in Diffa region, has added to Niger’s chronic vulnerability. It is expected that humanitarian needs remain high in Niger’s Diffa region throughout 2017. With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger is addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of up to 78,137 people in Diffa region. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating up to ten water points, benefiting up to 5,000 people; and (2) distributing gas kits for domestic use, to reduce cooking-related costs and therefore increase the purchasing power of households, benefiting up to 3,500 people.
