Published purpose
March 2017 - Chad struggles with humanitarian emergencies related to food insecurity, malnutrition and displacement. As a result, 4.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. More than 1 million people are faced with severe food shortages that threaten to wipe out their livelihoods. Global acute malnutrition has surpassed the emergency threshold in six of the country’s 23 regions and severe acute malnutrition in 11 regions. Conflicts and insecurity have uprooted some 580,000 people internally and from neighbouring countries. With GAC’s support, Oxfam-Québec is addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of up to 33,752 people in the Lac Region. Project activities include: (1) distributing unconditional cash to households, benefiting up to 11,350 people; (2) constructing or rehabilitating ten water points, benefiting up to 5,000 people; and (3) providing support to protection committees to conduct analyses of the social impact of conflicts and protection, as well as to continuously monitor protection threats, benefiting up to 3,402 people.
