Published purpose

March 2017 - Niger continues to face significant humanitarian challenges related to food insecurity, malnutrition, and forced displacement. The expansion of the conflict in Nigeria, which has led to 302,387 internally displaced persons, returnees and Nigerian refugees in Diffa region, has added to Niger’s chronic vulnerability. It is expected that humanitarian needs remain high in Niger’s Diffa region throughout 2017. With GAC’s support, SOS Children’s Village is addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of up to 115,724 people in Diffa region. Project activities include: (1) providing child protection services, including identification, documentation, management and monitoring of up to 60 child protection cases; (2) providing nutrition and health services through up to five health facilities to up to 52,920 children and up to 2,340 women; and (3) providing lifesaving non-food items such as blankets and mosquito nets to up to 800 newly displaced women-headed households and other vulnerable groups, benefiting up to 5,600 people.
