International Organisation of La Francophonie

Published purpose

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF). The OIF uses these funds and those of other donors to carry out its mandate and implement its programs. These programs focus on promoting the French language and cultural and linguistic diversity; promoting peace, democracy and human rights; and supporting education, training, higher education and research. They also focus on promoting sustainable economic development and solidarity. In implementing its strategic objectives, the OIF takes into account the crosscutting themes of youth and gender equality. The OIF carries out its activities in cooperation with the other institutions of La Francophonie, civil society, and national, international and multilateral organizations. Advocacy, project funding, technical assistance, training, awareness-raising and dissemination of knowledge in French are the OIF’s primary means of carrying out its programming, which focuses on women and youth. Canada’s support for the OIF’s programming contributes in particular to the promotion of the French language in a context of linguistic and cultural diversity, and to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. This support also helps strengthen democratic governance and the rule of law among its members, improve access for all children to quality education and training, promote an equitable and sustainable digital transformation, and implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
