Published purpose
This project supports the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish critical mechanisms and capabilities for responding to the deliberate use of disease as a weapon. Project activities include: (1) establishing a Health Security Interface function at the WHO to respond to biological threats; (2) mapping the degree of WHO exposure against global security threats; (3) identifying and establishing working relationships with relevant key international actors working within the health-security space; (4) monitoring the ongoing implementation of WHO resolution 55.16 on global public health response to accidental or deliberate chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear material release. It also monitors WHO resolution 54.14 on developing a WHO-led epidemic alert and response strategy; and (5) establishing a steering committee responsible for developing guidance and strategy documents to guide WHO’s readiness and response to biological threats.
