Published purpose

This project aims to further strengthen the capacity of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to develop national legal frameworks that prohibit and prevent the proliferation of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons. This also includes their means of delivery, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540. Phase II of this project expands on the legislative assistance that was provided to Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay and Uruguay during Phase I. Project activities included (1) planning and delivering 5 workshops to prepare national legislation in beneficiary countries; (2) preparing legislation surveys; and (3) engaging national stakeholders to advocate for the development of legislation in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1540.
