Published purpose

The Teacher Education Support Project (TESP) aimed to strengthen the quality, relevance, and management of teacher education in Tanzania by modernizing learning environments, building a stronger and better prepared teaching workforce, and institutionalizing gender equality across all 35 government Teachers’ Colleges, with the overarching goal of ensuring that new teachers enter the profession with stronger skills, more effective pedagogical practices, and a deeper capacity to deliver inclusive, high quality instruction. Project activities included: (1) constructed and upgraded modern learning spaces; (2) strengthened digital systems for teaching and management; (3) expanded digital connectivity of the colleges; (4) enhancing the Ministry of Education’s capacity to manage teacher training nationally; (5) updated curriculum content and strengthened the use of modern, learner centered pedagogy to improve the quality of pre service teacher preparation; (6) trained tutors on effective and gender sensitive teaching methods to ensure inclusive, learner centered instruction; and (7) provided professional development to tutors to strengthen subject mastery, ICT enabled pedagogy, and overall teaching quality.
