Published purpose
The Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology will recruit, retain, and support women across Canada particularly in Ontario, Newfoundland and Alberta in at least five red seal trades including construction electrician, carpenter, welder, plumber, and heavy equipment operator through the development of a women-led mentorship program to help increase the number of women entering and staying in the trades.The funding supports projects that aim to recruit, retain and help both women apprentices succeed in at least 1 of the 39 eligible Red Seal trades by: 1. creating partnerships with women’s groups, community colleges, unions or employers to recruit women 2. organizing women-led events as an outreach tool to help attract women to the trades industry 3. offering mentorship by female role models, women-in-the-skilled-trades networks, and opportunities to share success stories 4. creating a welcoming space where women can feel comfortable and safe in the training and work sites
