Published purpose
The project helped to make health and education services more available, improve access to services, and improve the quality of services offered to communities. Activities in the health sector aimed to help mainly women and children. They included reproductive care, improving nutrition, combating micronutrient deficiencies, and preventing the spread of AIDS and tuberculosis. In education, the fund supported basic education initiatives, teacher training, the provision of educational material, functional adult literacy, and technical and vocational training. After the earthquake on January 12, 2010, six local funds in Haiti, including this one, were realigned to support rapid recovery projects that respond to the immediate needs of Haitians affected by the earthquake in the communes of Léogâne and Jacmel, displaced persons and host communities in the Central and Artibonite departments, and relief support for initiatives in Port-au-Prince. Projects focused on children and youth, food security, and economic growth, in line with priorities set out in the Action Plan for National Recovery and Development of Haiti, and were implemented by locally-based Haitian organizations.
