Published purpose

The goal of this initiative is to improve access to quality basic education especially for the rural poor and disadvantaged girls and boys. Targeted Budget Support for Education for All (EFA) consists of two components: (1) a budget support operation through the Education National Targeted Program in support of national EFA goals in basic education and the promotion of minimum service delivery standards; and (2) a capacity development facility designed to strengthen the administration of the education system and the National Targeted Program. The project focuses on improved access, enhanced quality, gender equality, and an improved education-enabling environment through comprehensive capacity development. Project activities help to advance the implementation of the National EFA Action Plan; improve access to educational opportunities for students in the most disadvantaged schools through a package of investments designed to enhance the quality of the country's primary education sector. CIDA, Belgium, the World Bank, the European Commission, the United Kingdom and New Zealand fund this project jointly.
