Published purpose

The Tra Vinh Improved Livelihoods Project, implemented in partnership with the provincial authorities of Tra Vinh, focuses on increasing income-earning opportunities in on-farm and off-farm employment for the poor. It increases productivity and improves food security through activities that support crop diversification, the intensification of agriculture and the development of rural enterprise. The project involves local stakeholders directly and is based on decentralized planning and decision-making processes that strengthen local communities and agencies engaged in poverty reduction. Training is conducted for longer-term capacity development. Overall, the project increases the income and food security of selected rural households; enhances the capacity of poor rural households to identify, plan, manage and implement appropriate development activities; strengthens the government's capacity in participatory planning and management, and the development and implementation of appropriate agriculture and rural development policies and programs in support of poverty reduction.
