Published purpose
This project contributes to poverty reduction and the sustainable development of Bangladesh through support to education, and is a combined effort of the Bangladesh Government, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and CIDA. Through this project, quality initial and in-service teacher training and continuous professional development are provided to all eligible teachers of grades 6-10 in government and registered non-government secondary schools in Bangladesh. Project activities also improve the organizational capacity of training institutions and the training infrastructure for secondary school teachers and administrators, including three under-served areas. The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) of the Ministry of Education (MOE) is the implementing agency for this project. This initiative and the Secondary Education Sector Development Program (SESDP), the latter funded only by ADB and the GoB, work in close collaboration, the SESDP working at overall sector reforms while this initiative focuses on preparing teachers to support the reforms.
