Published purpose

This project aims to promote greater equality between women and men in Mali. Objectives are to strengthen the capabilities of key partners (government and civil society), to promote equality between women and men at the national and local level, and to contribute strategically to improving the status and conditions of women and girls in law, health, reproductive health, and governance. This project is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the role and influence of the Ministry for the Promotion of Women, Children, and the Family, as well as non governmental organizations (NGO) in Mali. By implementing two major components (institutional development and a program of targeted operations), this project helps to eliminate practices detrimental to the health of women, particularly female genital mutilation. The project also promotes dialogue and action on issues relating to equality between women and men in communities and among local authorities.
