Published purpose

The project aims to improve the capacity of Egypt's General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP) to develop and manage an urban observatory and to prepare and update a comprehensive review of housing issues in Egypt. The purpose of the project is to provide housing stakeholders - including developers, home builders, bankers, and real estate appraisers - with information in support of their work and investment decisions, as well as to provide policy-makers with the information they need to develop equitable housing policy for all Egyptians, especially vulnerable and marginalized groups of women and youth. The GOPP - an agency of the Egyptian Ministry of Housing and New Communities - has outlined a plan to create an urban observatory, under the guidance of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The observatory is charged with monitoring and reporting changing housing market conditions and as well as providing industry stakeholders with comprehensive analyses of the housing and urban settlement requirements of Egypt.
