Published purpose

This project supports the rehabilitation and construction of rural infrastructure using labour-intensive approaches. The project focuses on building or rehabilitating rural roads, reforestation, and terracing hillside agricultural lands in order to protect the environment and increase productivity. The use of local labour creates temporary employment for the most vulnerable citizens and contributes to increased economic activity in project zones. In the longer term, the project aims to contribute to the diversification of the rural economy and to poverty reduction. CIDA's contribution is made through delegated cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
