Published purpose

This local fund supported good governance and human rights projects that promote democracy and peace in Haiti. Target sectors included peaceful conflict resolution, civic education, strengthening democracy, respect for human rights, and creating a culture of peace. After the earthquake on January 12, 2010, six local funds in Haiti, including this one, were realigned to support rapid recovery projects that respond to the immediate needs of Haitians affected by the earthquake in the communes of Léogâne and Jacmel, displaced persons and host communities in the Central and Artibonite departments, and relief support for initiatives in Port-au-Prince. Projects focused on children and youth, food security, and economic growth, in line with priorities set out in the Action Plan for National Recovery and Development of Haiti, and were implemented by locally-based Haitian organizations.
