Published purpose

The project is designed to promote job creation via economic and community opportunities for grassroots groups. It encourages community ownership in the rehabilitation and construction of local social and economic infrastructure. Through local community organizations, the project helps to develop capacities and expertise in maintaining and managing small community and economic infrastructure. After the earthquake on January 12, 2010, six local funds in Haiti, including this one, were realigned to support rapid recovery projects that respond to the immediate needs of Haitians affected by the earthquake in the communes of Léogâne and Jacmel, displaced persons and host communities in the Central and Artibonite departments, and relief support for initiatives in Port-au-Prince. Projects focused on children and youth, food security, and economic growth, in line with priorities set out in the Action Plan for National Recovery and Development of Haiti, and were implemented by locally-based Haitian organizations.
