Published purpose
Created to reduce the effects of poverty in communes affected by violence, the Bati Lavi Fund aimed to improve access to basic services in marginalized urban zones. The initiatives financed related to neighbourhood sanitation, clean drinking water supply and distribution, and the establishment of schools, for example. After the earthquake on January 12, 2010, six local funds in Haiti, including this one, were realigned to support rapid recovery projects that respond to the immediate needs of Haitians affected by the earthquake in the communes of Léogâne and Jacmel, displaced persons and host communities in the Central and Artibonite departments, and relief support for initiatives in Port-au-Prince. Projects focused on children and youth, food security, and economic growth, in line with priorities set out in the Action Plan for National Recovery and Development of Haiti, and were implemented by locally-based Haitian organizations.
