Published purpose
This project is a component of the Canada-Asia Regional Emerging Infectious Diseases (CAREID) Initiative. The CAREID initiative aims to both strengthen the capacity of selected national public health systems in South East Asia and China, to detect and respond effectively to emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) and reinforce and enhance regional planning and response mechanisms. This component, implemented by the World Health Organization, aims to improve health security in the Asia-Pacific region through collaborative partnerships for preparedness and the containment and control of emerging infectious diseases. The component is organized under five key objectives: reducing the risk of emerging diseases; strengthening early detection of outbreaks of emerging diseases; improving early response to emerging diseases; increasing preparedness for emerging diseases; and developing mechanisms for long-term collaboration on health security issues within the Asia-Pacific Region.
