Published purpose

The main objective of the project is to increase the capacity of Bangladesh's Department of the Environment and of civil society to carry out sustainable environmental management in Bangladesh. The overall focus of the project is on the Department of the Environment's mandate of regulation and enforcement, supporting clarification of the regulatory regime and strengthening the procedures and skills necessary to enforce it. The goal is to enhance compliance. The project also strengthens non-regulatory approaches such as demonstration projects, awareness building, and the involvement of non-governmental organizations, communities, and the private sector in environmental management issues.
