Published purpose
This is a collaborative project, designed to promote democratic governance based on an effective Parliament, professional media, and effective citizenship. The purpose is to strengthen institutions and processes that contribute to the free flow of information and allow direct and indirect interaction between citizens, elected representatives, and government functionaries. The project thus helps create a framework for promoting active citizenship and public advocacy for effective and accountable government. Technical assistance and training are provided to: support Bangladesh's efforts to create a legal and institutional environment favourable to the freedom of information; assist with improving access to information for key stakeholders such as the media and citizen's groups; support the development of professional media able to act as effective intermediaries in the transmission of information between government and citizens; and foster the capacity for more transparent, accountable, and participatory governance.
