Published purpose

This project was initiated in response to need for urgent action in child protection in Darfur and is a component of concerted efforts by CIDA and of the international community committed to support the Sudanese peace process. It aims at strengthening capacities and responses of the stakeholders (mostly governments and communities of internally displaced people (IDP)) to build a protective environment for IDPs and conflict-affected children in Darfur against violence, abuse, exploitation, neglect and the effects of the conflict. The project concentrates its efforts on providing recovery and reintegration services, mostly to children associated with armed groups and children in contact with the law, and psycho-social support to children IDP, and on establishing monitoring and reporting mechanisms, raising awareness on child protection, and building the capacities of police officers, teachers, civil servants, and the judiciary.
