Published purpose

The objective of the Development and Employment Fund - Phase II (FODEM II) was to contribute directly to reducing the effects of poverty and social conflict in target communities. This objective was achieved by funding small-scale productive investments, social infrastructure, and water supply and sanitation services. The initiatives funded were mainly executed using a labour-intensive approach that generated jobs and increased income for recipients. After the earthquake on January 12, 2010, six local funds in Haiti, including this one, were realigned to support rapid recovery projects that respond to the immediate needs of Haitians affected by the earthquake in the communes of Léogâne and Jacmel, displaced persons and host communities in the Central and Artibonite departments, and relief support for initiatives in Port-au-Prince. Projects focused on children and youth, food security, and economic growth, in line with priorities set out in the Action Plan for National Recovery and Development of Haiti, and were implemented by locally-based Haitian organizations.
