Published purpose

The project promotes dialogue and increased understanding between governments, the hydrocarbon industry and Indigenous peoples in relation to the development of the region's hydrocarbon potential in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner. The initiative includes the development of national and regional tripartite dialogue processes and a series of training workshops to provide a common understanding of key issues of concern to these stakeholders (e.g. consultation, management and resolution of conflicts, regulation of protected areas, participatory monitoring of the environmental and social impacts). The project also aims to produce a number of best practices on these issues.
