Published purpose

The Basic Services Fund was a British initiative led by the Department for International Development (DFID). It aimed at providing basic services, such as access to education, primary healthcare, water and sanitation, to people living in areas of South Sudan where these services are mostly absent. Activities included the construction of classrooms, boreholes, latrines, and clinics, as well as the training of the staff at the State level in Southern Sudan. CIDA supported Phase II of the Basic Services Fund from January 2009 until September 2010. While Phase II is now over, the Basic Services Fund continues to exist with additional phases.
