Published purpose

The Zimbabwe Civil Society Fund - Phase II (ZCSF II) is a responsive fund managed by the Aid section in the Canadian Embassy to Zimbabwe. Its focus is to ensure that civil society organizations and citizens can participate in democratic reform and transition in Zimbabwe. It builds on a previous phase whose local partners have been internationally recognised for their protection of human rights, due process and democratic values. ZCSF II helps maintain the results achieved by its predecessor Fund. Sub-projects aim to support democratic transition in Zimbabwe. Activities may include: preventing, and supporting victims of, human rights violations; supporting the application of the rule of law; increasing citizens' participation in the constitutional reform process; improving and monitoring the electoral process to ensure it is free and fair; protecting marginalised groups (especially women, children and youth) against resurgence of political violence and intimidation; and monitoring the use of public resources while holding government accountable. ZCSF II also dedicates a portion of its project resources for pro-active and strategic programming to address organizational capacity gaps, particularly for smaller community-level organizations.
