Published purpose

This project contributes to a five-year Expert Deployment Mechanism for Climate Action in Africa to support official development assistance-eligible countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to address the causes and effects of climate change, including measures that increase women’s capabilities to act as agents of change. It enables the flexible and timely deployment of qualified experts, primarily Canadians, from government, civil society, academia, and private sector, in response to requests from African governments at all levels, as well as non-governmental entities. Project activities include: (1) improving climate change governance capacity; (2) improving climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives; and (3) enhancing women’s participation and leadership in climate action. The Canadian Executing Agency, a consortium of Alinea International, Econoler and WSP Canada Inc, selected via a competitive Request for Proposals, is responsible for identifying and deploying expert resources to meet the project’s objectives. Deployments are short-term, valued up to $300,000, with limited exceptions, and support one of the 3 components relative to each stakeholder request. Strategic, climate-focused South-South exchanges are also supported.
