Published purpose

This initiative aims to support the Government of Senegal to ensure that boys and girls have better access to education. It also seeks to improve the quality and management of the education system in Senegal. The initiative seeks to support the government in implementing the education sector plan defined in the 2013-2025 Development Program for Education and Training. Project activities include planning, building class rooms, providing furniture (such as desks), installing fences and water points, constructing latrines, purchasing textbooks, training teachers, and providing technical assistance to managers in the Ministry of Education. As with all budget support initiatives, Canada is working in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Senegal to strengthen its aid effectiveness, by focusing on effective, transparent, and accountable country system; increasing donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthening mutual accountability. The approach also fosters greater policy dialogue among CIDA, government, and partners, thus helping to strengthen efforts for effective, focussed aid, as well as long-term development results. This initiative is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors.
