Published purpose

This grant represents Canada's long-term institutional support to the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF). The LDCF uses these funds and other donors’ funding, to achieve its mandate. The LDCF’s mandate addresses urgent and immediate adaptation needs of the poorest and most vulnerable countries. The LDCF supports Least Developed Countries in preparing and implementing National Adaptation Programmes of Action and National Adaptation Plans. It also focuses on reducing the vulnerability of the sectors and resources central to development and livelihoods. This includes agriculture and food security, health, water, disaster risk management and prevention, infrastructure, and fragile ecosystems. The LDCF is mandated under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and is administered by the Global Environment Facility. It aims to address the needs of Least Developed Countries that are especially vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change.
