Published purpose

The project aims to improve the health and school performance of children by providing daily meals to 609,000 schoolchildren living in the most disadvantaged and dry regions of Kenya. The support to the school feeding program seeks to help school-age children suffering from chronic hunger and an insufficient diet, increase attendance at the primary school level, and improve children’s learning conditions. The project reinforces links between school feeding programs and local agricultural production through a new model for food supply. This model pilots the purchase and use of locally available foods grown in these dry regions with more limited agricultural potential. The project also works to enhance the Government of Kenya’s ability to manage school feeding programs, and to ensure sustainability of these programs in the country.
