June 2, 2014 - Heavy rainfall has caused massive floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The floods are said to be the worst in 120 years and have brought significant destruction. An estimated 1.5 million people have been affected. The Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina has requested international assistance in responding to this disaster. With GAC’s support through the Canadian Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in partnership with the Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is helping people to provide assistance to 10,000 flood-affected families. Project activities include: (1) provision of general health awareness, landmine awareness and psychosocial support; (2) provision of water, sanitation and hygiene promotion; and, (3) provision of livelihoods assistance.
