Published purpose

The purpose of this project is to support the 9th Brigade of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to increase their skills and capabilities to secure the border town of Arsal. A purpose built but flexible (container based) training facility would be constructed simultaneously with a detailed ‘understanding’ phase, during which a baseline survey would be carried out in the communities. Using the Systems Approach to Training methodology, the results of this phase would inform the detail of the training and mentoring to be imparted to the Brigade over the lifetime of the project with changes made following regular reviews of outcome. It is anticipated that the bulk of the training would be delivered to Company sized Groups (90 personnel); more specialised training would be delivered to the Officers and other specialised groups (e.g. community and police liaison) separately and as the requirement and changing nature of the mission became apparent over time.
