Published purpose

This project assists CARICOM Member States in the development of omnibus strategic trade legislation related to the acquisition, manufacture, and delivery of CBRN items and their related activities. Where obligations exist related to the CWC, the CARICOM 1540 Programme will continue to assist Members in developing stand-alone or hybrid instruments to cover BRN accordingly. In keeping with CARICOM's decision in the 2018-2019 UNSCR 1540 Workplan to focus on BTR as an urgent priority, there will be significant programming aimed at highlighting the potential risks posed by the accidental or deliberate release of harmful animal pathogens and zoonotic diseases, within the context of the UNSCR 1540 and the BWC. 1540 programming activities are aimed at increasing capacity among customs officials to prevent illicit trade in CBRN-related materials and related technology, will continue to advance in 2018 with a sequenced approach focusing on classification, verification and licensing procedures within the context of our overall commodity identification training (CIT) program.
