Published purpose

The goal of this project is to obtain improved learning outcomes for women and girls in crisis, conflict and fragility situations and humanitarian settings in Pakistan. The project works to improve access to quality education in two of the eight newly-merged districts of Kyber Pakthunkhwa. Project activities include: (1) reconstructing 155 damaged schools, providing furniture and other gender-appropriate supplies; (2) training teachers; and (3) mobilising community members to allow girls to attend school, and supporting the Khyber Pkahthunkwa government in girl-friendly policy formulation and implementation in the education sector. It is expected that 13,925 children (65% girls) benefit from access to quality education across 155 formal schools; provide for 100 Early Childhood Education classes; support 55 middle schools (exclusively for girls); provide learning opportunities to 310 teachers (50% women); and empower 155 parents-teachers associations in the target districts. The project is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
