Published purpose
The project aims to promote a safe and healthy learning and living environment in migrant and host communities in Guyana’s hinterland and selected coastal areas in Guyana. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating community-based centres and community health facilities with emphasis on climate resistant buildings and optimum water, sanitation and hygiene facilities; (2) implementing age appropriate programming focusing on migrants and children of the hinterland; (3) assessing the state of school environments in dormitory schools and consult with all stakeholders including the children in schools; (4) drafting Guyana Standards for Dormitory Schools, including the human and financial resource needs, and monitoring tool and consistent with the Regional standards and with the Ministry’s policies and plans; and (5) increasing access to menstrual hygiene-related education, materials, and disposal options. The project expects to benefit 40,000 children under the age of 4 years, 20,000 parents/caregivers and 8,500 adolescent boys and girls in 100 communities across Administrative Regions 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 in Guyana.
